Daryl qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 1984, and later as a Contact Lens Specialist in 1995. When not in one of our three practices he undertakes many educational roles. He is a Practical examiner for trainee dispensing opticians and an Associate lecturer at the Plymouth University Optometry Department. His enthusiasm for optics also enables him to find time to be a course tutor on behalf of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers. Daryl’s in depth knowledge of spectacles and contact lenses has been invaluable for our patients and in house training.
Jane enjoys all aspect of Optometry but specialises in Diabetic Retinal Screening and children’s vision. Having started her career as a dispensing optician, managing a practice in Covent Garden, she returned to education gaining her degree in Optometry in 1996. She heads up the Optometry team which comprises of Pam Adams, Helen McKinna , Kate Humphreys, Jane Mossford , Andrew McNeill, Dr David Adams, Richard Hoyland and Louise Frost.
Pam joined the Newsome team in July 2008. She divides her working week between testing in our Ivybridge Practice and working with students at the Low Vision Clinic based in Plymouth. Specialising in the Glaucoma Shared Care Scheme, Pam is also very active in her Charity work with Vision Aid Overseas.
Kate is one of our full time Optometrists working between our Ivybridge and Totnes practices. She specialises in the Glaucoma Shared Care Scheme, a scheme developed between the hospital eye service and local optometrists to care for and monitor people with glaucoma.
Graduating from City University with 1st Class Honours in 1986, Helen joined us in 2008 and now splits her time between all three practices and The Royal Eye Infirmary at Derriford Hospital.
Andrew has been with the Ivybridge team since 2011 and has a special interest in ocular pathology. An important and useful part of eye disease diagnosis.
Jane started working with Newsomes in 2004 and works two days a week for us in our Ivybridge and Yealmpton Practices. She is part of the Plymouth area Diabetic Screening team and the Glaucoma Shared Care Scheme.
Nick is a Dispensing Optician and has been fitting Contact Lenses for over 30 years. He also specialises in Colorimetry, which provides coloured overlays and tinted spectacle lenses for children and adults who suffer from visual stress.
Joining us in 2005, Laura is an experienced Dispensing Optician and Contact Lens Practitioner. She divides her time working between the Totnes and Ivybridge practices.
Jane joined the group in March 2017 and is a great asset to our team. She is a dispensing optician and has been fitting contact lenses for over 20 years. She is also a practical examiner for ABDO and a diabetic screener. As an Ambassador for careers in Optics she also enjoys visiting schools and supporting teenagers with work experience.
Rebecca started working with us as a receptionist and developed such an interest in her work she undertook the 3 year dispensing course qualifying in 2011, supervised by Daryl.
Theresa joined our Dispensing team in 2012. Coming from a multiple chain of Opticians and qualifying as a Dispensing Optician in 2004, she is now enjoying the individuality of an independent practice, working across all the Newsome branches.
Gill has been with us since 2009 and along with Daryl and Laura makes up our Glazing team. Between them they run our in-house glazing lab ensuring that our exacting standards are consistently met.
Our Admin team consists of Karen Vincent, Anita Heately, Sara Johansen, Chris Gurnell, Sara Walker, Anya Menge
Vanessa Riley and warm welcome back to Christine Jago . This team is at the forefront of our business and bring with them a wealth of experience. They manage the day to day running of the practice and are the first point of contact when you visit or call.
Head Optometrist at Plymouth Royal Eye Infirmary Dr Adams occasionally takes time away from his busy schedule at the REI to work with us.
Head Optometrist at the West of England Eye Unit Louise has been a locum with us at Totnes since we opened in 2012. She is the Head of the Optometry Service at the West of England Eye Unit at The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and has a special interest in paediatric optometry, contact lens fitting and macular degeneration.
Consultant Ophthalmologist at Royal Eye Infirmary. Along with his own hectic schedule at the REI, where he specialises in Cataract Surgery, Glaucoma and Genetics, Mr Booth runs a monthly general clinic in our Ivybridge practice.
